Career Development with High Schoolers through Huntington
For the past 10 years, Huntington has supported the Chicago Summer Business Institute (CSBI), a paid summer internship program for Chicago-area high school students. The CSBI matches local high school students from low-to moderate-income families with leading companies to provide meaningful summer jobs and expose them to a professional life in finance. Participants gain skills that will transfer to college and into their future careers.
For six weeks, Santiago Serena, a rising senior at DePaul College Prep, and Ciamar Leon, a rising junior at George Westinghouse College Prep, had the opportunity to work in the financial sector alongside Huntington colleagues. They learned about the importance of networking, time management, work culture, personal branding, financial literacy, and working as a team.
Creating Accountant Careers for Underserved Communities
Huntington’s relationship with the Ohio CPA (Certified Public Accountant) Foundation aims to make a positive impact in diverse and underserved communities. The Ohio CPA Foundation hosted a Careers in Public Accounting camp for 150 high schoolers in the Northwest Ohio region to introduce students to accounting careers. Huntington sponsored the program, which supports high school students from urban areas, first-generation college students, LGBTQ+ students, and students with learning disabilities and physical disabilities.
